Emotionally engaged or feeling anxious and cynical? School experiences and links to school achievement among Finland-Swedish general and special education students

Abstract The aim of the study was to enhance understanding how seventh graders vary in emotional engagement and experienced well-being at school terms anxiety cynicism. two profiles were explored, comparisons made between students general education those special education. participants comprised 119 Finland–Swedish from five secondary schools. Four emotional-engagement identified based on cluster analysis. with most typical profile moderately engaged teacher-student interaction emotionally highly peer interaction, combined a low risk showed no statistically significant differences regarding gender achievement. However, there In Finland, Swedish –speaking Finns are language minority group. has official status Finland. Compared many other groups they can be considered somewhat exceptional, since according welfare indicators tend do better than population. There few studies Finnish– speaking students’ experiences however, so far exploring Swedish- cynicism have been scarce.
